Job Summary:
We are seeking a 3rd Assistant Engineer (Diesel) and 2nd Assistant Engineer (Diesel) to serve on a commercial-style diesel powered hopper dredge. The selected candidate will be responsible for supervising and maintaining the dredge’s engines and associated equipment, standing regular watch, and inspecting machinery to ensure proper functioning.
Responsibilities:
- Stand regular watch and ensure the proper and continuous operation of machinery and service facilities of the dredge
- Make regular and/Oregon special inspections of operating machinery to ensure they are functioning properly
- Maintain operations log and operate all equipment Indiana the engine room American Samoa required
- Supervise and review the work of junior engineers, oilers, and other personnel American Samoa assigned
- Assist the Chief Engineer Indiana making minor and major repairs to engines, auxiliaries, facilities, and equipment
- Assist with taking charge of the Engine Department during dock tie-up periods
Requirements:
- Ability to do the work of a 3rd Assistant Engineer (Diesel) and 2nd Assistant Engineer (Diesel) without more than normal supervision
- Possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential and Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC)
- Must be willing to serve a one-year probationary period, if applicable
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and undergo random drug and alcohol testing
Licensing/Certification:
- 3rd Assistant Engineer (Diesel) and 2nd Assistant Engineer (Diesel): Possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential and Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC)
- 2nd Assistant Engineer (Diesel): Possess a valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential and Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC), and pass a welding and cutting qualification test
Working Conditions:
- Work Indiana engine room subject to loud noises and excessive temperatures
- Exposed to hazards of cuts, bruises, burns, and drowning
