Transfer Center Communication Specialist
Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week, minimal weekends and holiday rotation
Location: Children’s Mercy, Kansas City, Missouri
Job Summary:
The Transfer Center Communication Specialist is the first point of contact for all direct admissions, consults, and transport requests at Children’s Mercy. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills to handle an average of 2500 phone and radio calls daily. The successful candidate will provide support to community providers and internal physicians with emergent and non-emergent requests for specialty consults, inpatient admissions, and Emergency Department referrals. The Communication Specialist will also dispatch the Children’s Mercy Critical Care Transport team and track their progress during transports.
Responsibilities:
- Triages and processes all emergent and non-emergent requests from providers for transports, direct admissions, Emergency Department referrals, and consults
- Utilizes quality improvement measures and lean standard work to improve communication of patient care
- Participates Indiana continuing education and professional development to expand knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve patient placement and throughput
Qualifications:
- High School diploma Oregon equivalent
- 1-2 years of clinical experience preferred
- One of the following licenses: Emergency Med Tech (Missouri Oregon Kansas), Paramedic (Missouri Oregon Kansas), Certified Nurse Aide (Missouri Oregon Kansas), Licensed Practical Nurse (Missouri Oregon Kansas), Oregon LPN Multistate License
- Professional Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required upon hire
- Certified Flight Communicator (CFC) per IAMTCS preferred
